Record Setting Reach for National LGBTQ Health Awareness Week!

The 20th Annual National LGBTQ Health Awareness Week, brought to you by the National Coalition for LGBTQ Health, was the most far-reaching and impactful week ever. Reaching more than 13.3 million people on social media alone, partnering with 582 organizations, featured in 40 media outlets, and welcoming more than 4,400 webinar participants, the LGBTQ health community truly LIVED OUT LOUD for LGBTQ Health. Thank you for participating and making this the most successful National LGBTQ Health Awareness Week yet!

The theme, LIVE OUT LOUD!, arose from the National Coalition for LGBTQ Health’s Inaugural State of LGBTQ Health National Survey, and encouraged everyone to speak openly about LGBTQ health, and raise awareness of mental health, trans health, and ending stigma through accessible, affirming, and inclusive healthcare services so that everyone can fully live their truth and a healthy life.

Thank You Proud Partners!

We were joined by 582 Proud Partner Organizations from all 50 states and around the world who all joined together to SAY GAY OUT LOUD and LIVE OUT LOUD for LGBTQ Health. Our partners took to social media and to the streets in their local communities by hosting National LGBTQ Health Awareness Week events across the U.S.

Live Out Loud in the News

National LGBTQ Health Awareness Week was all the buzz last week and was featured in more than 40 media outlets. A big thank you to our media partners for helping spread the good word. Here are a sample of those articles:

Living Out Loud on Social Media

#LGBTQHealth social media was the place to be during National LGBTQ Health Awareness week! Our Proud Partners and the whole LGBTQ Health community coalesced and amplified the LIVE OUT LOUD message. Together we reached more that 13.2 million people on social media alone!  Many of our partners took the messaging and themes from our promotional toolkit and made messaging and imagery their own.

Educating for LGBTQ Health

Two dynamic webinars were held during with National LGBTQ Health Awareness Week and were centered on LGBTQ-focused speakers, programs, education, and advocacy efforts. These webinars had great participation, with more than 4,200 people participating in these offerings.

Optimizing PrEP in Practice: Guidelines & Clinical Considerations

In this engaging webinar, Dr. Demetre Daskalakis delved into CDC’c Clinical Practice Guideline for PrEP and reviewed the latest in PrEP science and epidemiology. Following his presentation, Dr. Anu Hazra spoke to the clinical considerations of the guidelines from a PrEP provider standpoint, followed by a moderated Q & A session with both faculty.

Opportunities and Strategies to Optimize PrEP Uptake in Key Communities

This interactive webinar featured the perspectives of multiple diverse HIV prevention experts on PrEP uptake among relevant consumer/patient communities, including Black women, same-gender-loving (SGL) Black and Latino men, and transgender individuals. Presenters considered both challenges and opportunities for PrEP use among these communities, specific access issues, and strategies and model practices for providers and healthcare teams to address barriers and fully engage clients.

Advocating for LGBTQ Health

Texas’s Attorney General issued a statement saying that the City of Austin Independent School District’s Pride Week, as part of National LGBTQ Health Awareness Week, was “breaking state law”. The Coalition issued a response strongly opposing the Attorney General and saying OUT LOUD to LGBTQ students in Texas and around the country that, “We see you clearly, we hear you loudly, and we stand with you proudly.”

Additional advocacy took place in Nevada as Governor Sisolak proclaimed March 21-25 as “LGBTQ Health Awareness Week” in his state, and in Congress as U.S. Congressman Cicilline cited the week as an opportunity to call for passage of the Equality Act.

Thank you for Living Out Loud — Every Day!

The National Coalition for LGBTQ Health is excited to announce the theme for this year’s 20th National LGBTQ Health Awareness Week— LIVE OUT LOUD for LGBTQ Health! The theme encourages everyone to speak openly about LGBTQ health, providing an umbrella under which to discuss and raise awareness of mental health, trans health, and ending stigma through accessible, affirming, and inclusive healthcare services so that everyone can fully live their truth and a healthy life.

Optimism, relevance, and timeliness are integral to the theme of the week. This theme was developed in part from results of the National Coalition for LGBTQ Health’s Inaugural State of LGBTQ Health National Survey™ which features input from nearly 2,500 LGBTQ health providers and highlights the most pressing healthcare issues faced by LGBTQ communities. The survey report and findings will be released during the week.

This theme also speaks to the importance of raising our collective voice against those telling us, “Don’t Say Gay.” Please join us in shouting “Gay” OUT LOUD as we LIVE OUT LOUD for LGBTQ Health!
